About

Somebody has to ownthe whole of it.

Growing a business usually means hiring several suppliers, and the founder stays the only person responsible for making all their work fit together. That coordination is unpaid, invisible, and it lands on the person with the least time.

Why we exist

We do not only advise. We build it.

Strategy often leads into identity. Identity leads into a website. A process review turns up a software problem. A visibility problem turns into content, search or paid work. Handing each stage to a different supplier is where the cost and the delay come from.

Equally, the right answer is sometimes to build nothing at all. We would rather say that than invoice for it.

There is no shortage of suppliers. Consultants, designers, developers, agencies. The problem is never finding one.
The coordination is the unpaid job. Invisible, and it lands on the person with the least time to do it.
Mowbray takes the whole of it. One team responsible for the outcome, not for a slice of it.
What we do

Four practices, one problem.

These are connected parts of one commercial problem, not four departments competing for the same budget.

01

Start

Business plans, strategy and modelling. Working out which problem is real before anybody builds anything.

StrategyModelling
02

Shape

Brand, identity and websites. An identity that fits, on a site built to sell rather than to look finished.

03

Run

Process and system reviews, software scoping and build, project management and practical technology advice. This is the heartland.

Who is behind the work

A team of founders, not a chief-something page.

People who have built and run businesses themselves, across different industries, and who have operated at senior level before doing this. We do not publish biographies or portraits. That is a deliberate choice: we would rather be judged on how we think and what we are willing to be accountable for, and you can weigh the record beside this without needing a name attached to it.

You will meet the people who will actually do your work before you commit to anything.

How we work

Six habits, and one rule.

We use whatever the work actually requires. Sometimes that is software or automation. Often it is a better process. Frequently it is a conversation in a room with no technology in it at all. The job decides the tool, not the other way round.

Review before prescription. Most engagements start with a review, not a proposal.
One accountable team. One person owns the outcome, not a slice of it.
The simplest thing that works. Scale the solution to the problem, not to the invoice.
Specialists when the work needs them. Brought in deliberately, managed by us.
We build where building is the missing piece. Advice that stops at the recommendation is half a job.
We say when something is not worth doing. Including when that is our own proposal.
What we are not

Four things we will not pretend to be.

Not vendor-tied

Not tied to any technology vendor, and not paid by one.

Not transformation for its own sake

Change has to earn its place against the problem in front of you.

Not strategy-and-leave

Not the kind of firm that delivers a strategy and disappears before implementation.

Not an AI consultancy

Not pretending every business problem is an artificial intelligence problem.

Where we are

Distributed, and we travel.

We work with clients across the UK, the United States and elsewhere. Early conversations happen by video or phone, because they rarely need to happen any other way. When being in the room genuinely improves the work, we travel.

For anyone doing their due diligence

The public record.

Mowbray is the trading name of MOWBRAY LTD, registered in England and Wales, company number 13712926, trading since 2021. The public record, including filing history, is at Companies House. Our privacy, terms and cookie policy sets out how we handle information.

You do not need a finished brief.

You do not need to know which of the four practices you need, or whether you need any of them. Asking a question does not put you into a sales process. If what you need is not something we should be doing, we will tell you and point you somewhere better.
